PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD
RESOLUTION NO. 2001-03
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND
COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD, RECOMMENDING SUPPORT OF THE
MCDONALD POINT PROJECT.
WHEREAS, demand for small boat moorage in Seward is greater then the available
moorage; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has actively sought expansion of moorage facilities for
many years; and
WHEREAS, the City of Seward has an active federal project for the expansion of the
Seward Small Boat Harbor that is pending appropriation of federal funds; and
WHEREAS, Alaska Barge and Salvage, through Mister Tim McDonald has proposed
developing McDonald Point into a small boat harbor and multi-use shipping facility; and
WHEREAS, this development would benefit the local economy through increased moorage
capacity, increased shipping activity and increased employment opportunities; and
WHEREAS, development of a private mooring facility would be a benefit to the Seward
area and Alaska as a whole by establishing market rates for wet slips in Alaska; and
WHEREAS, funding for this private marina would not compete for federal funding and
thereby jeopardize the current active project for Seward.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND RECOMMENDED BY THE PORT
AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, approve and adopt by resolution
support of the private development of McDonald Point into a marina and multi-use shipping facility.
Section 2. The City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska include in this resolution
authorization for the City Manager to monitor the progress ofthe project, propose incentives and to
assist the developer in any manner allowed by the City of Seward Code of Ordinances, policies or
City Council directive.

Board this 6th day of June, 2001.
