PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD
RESOLUTION NO. 2002-02
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND
COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD, RECOMMENDING THE CITY OF
SEWARD OPPOSE THE RELOCATION OF THE SEWARD RECORDERS
OFFICE.
WHEREAS, there are original hand-written records dating back to 1800's located here in
Seward; and
WHEREAS, the land recorders office has been located in Seward as long as Seward has
been in existence; and
WHEREAS, relocating the Seward Recorder's office to Anchorage compromises local
access to the records by the general public and private enterprises of the recording district for which
it serves; and
WHEREAS, if recordings are to be done in Anchorage, local users of the Seward recorders
office will be delayed several days; and
WHEREAS, this move will cause a negative economic impact to the Seward community and
will move jobs from Seward to Anchorage; and
WHEREAS, this relocation would also physically remove a large piece of the City Seward's
written history.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND RECOMMENDED BY THE PORT
AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Seward Port and Commerce Advisory Board urges the City Council to pass a
