CITY OF SEWARD ALASKA
SEWARD PORT AND COMMERCE
ADVISORY BOARD
RESOLUTION NO. 2005-03
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND
COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDING THE DISSOLUTION OF
THE PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD.
Whereas, the City of Seward has realized significant growth of its Port and Small
Boat Harbor operations; and
Whereas, the City of Seward desires to have a comprehensive Community
Economic Development and Marketing Plan; and has tasked the Port and Commerce
Advisory Board to develop such a plan; and
Whereas, none of the resources, support, or tools necessary to develop a
meaningful plan have been provided, the plan cannot be developed; and
Whereas, in recent years Economic Development issues have been either
delegated to the Chamber of Commerce or left unaddressed; and
Whereas, the existing Port and Commerce Advisory Board has operated only in
an advisory capacity to the City Council, primarily concerning Port and Small Boat
Harbor operations; and
Whereas, the Port and Commerce Advisory Board has attempted to remain active
with all issues pertaining to the development and operation of Seward's Port and Small
Boat Harbor; and
Whereas, of late, most policy decisions regarding the operation and development
of Seward's Port and Small Boat Harbor have been routinely made without benefit or use
of the board's input or expertise; and
Whereas, dialogue between the Council and Board has apparently failed,
rendering the Board ineffective and of little use or benefit to the City or Council,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED AND RECOMMENDED BY THE
PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, THAT:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Seward dissolves the current Port and
Commerce Advisory Board.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City of Seward, Alaska, Port and Commerce
Advisory Board this 6th day of July 2005.
