RESOLUTION NO. 99-002
A RESOLUTION OF ri'HE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, PORT AND
COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD, RECOMMENDING THE CITY SEEK
STATEWIDE TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROJECT FUNDS
IN SUPPORT OF THE SEWARD SHIP'S DRYDOCK SHIP REPAIR
FACILITY
WHEREAS, Seward Ship's Drydock is one of two such facilities in the State; and
WHEREAS, this facility is owned by, and is an asset to, the City, operated by Seward Slup's
Drydock under a Maintenance and Operating Agreement; and
WHEREAS, unlike the other facility, Seward Ship's Drydock operates unsubsidized and
therefore at a disadvantage when competing for contracts; and
WHEREAS, this facility is an important part of Seward's Marine Industrial Center and
economy; and
WHEREAS, continuing support and development of this facility and industry is vital to the
economic interest of Seward; and
r WHEREAS, assistance in expansion and improvement of this facility would enhance
economic development and provide increased employment; and
WHEREAS, Statewide Transportation Improvement Project Funds have been disbursed to
similar projects within the state;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, THF. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA,
PORT AND COMMERCE ADVISORY BOARD RECOMMENDS that:
Section 1. The City Council support funding from the Statewide Transportation
Improvement Project Funds for development and expansion of the Seward Ship's Drydock ship repair
facility.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City of Seward, Alaska, Port and Commerce Advisory
Board this 7th day of April, 1999.
