OPENING CEREMONY Councilmember Smith led the pledge of allegiance to the flag. ROLL CALL There were present: Clark Corbridge presiding and Willard Dunham Linda Amberg Bob Valdatta Tom Smith Jean Bardarson Betsy Kellar comprising a quorum of the Council; and Phillip Oates, City Manager Johanna Dollerhide, Acting City Clerk ABSENT -None CITIZENS' COMMENTS ON ANY SUBJEc:T EXCEPT THOSE ITEMS SCHEDULED FOR PUBLIC HEARING APPROVAL OF AGENDA AND CONSENT AGENDA Motion (Bardarson/Amberg) Approval of Agenda and Consent Agenda Motion Passed Unanimous NEW BUSINESS Resolution 2008-086, Authorizing The City Manager To Enter Into An Agreement With Alaska Pump & Supply, Inc. For The Repair Of A FLYGT Pump Model 3300 For An Amount Not To Exceed $16,000. Motion (Dunham/Bardarson) Approve Resolution 2008-086 ®ates stated this was a potential emergency, especially if the waste water pump in question failed the lift station. They did have three pumps operating currently, but there was no replacement standing by, which could be dangerous if the system became overloaded. It was a repair of the ~.. pump, as opposed to a purchase. A purchase would be over $34,000. It could be critical if the city had a pump fail and then flooding. Alaska 02, 2005 Council Minutes me 37, Page 627 In response to Dunham, Public Works Director W.C. Casey said this was repairing a pump. In response to Kellar, the pumps currently installed were two electric and one diesel. They were 28 years old. They were getting 5-7 years of service before they had to rebuild them. There were warranties on them, Casey stated. Smith wondered if spare parts were a problem because of the age of the equipment. Casey did not think so. Most municipalities used this well-known brand, and it was easy to obtain parts and get pumps repaired. The city had about 10 of these in the system right now. Dunham thought this was needed. Valdatta thought the quote was well written. Amberg wanted to know if it was possible to purchase a used pump, and Casey noted the points why he thought that would be a bad idea. Amberg thought maybe the city should look into having a few replacement pumps standing by, so a meeting like this wouldn't be necessary. Motion Passed Unanimous COUNCIL COMMENTS CITIZENS' COMMENTS Sandie Roach' thanked Linda Amberg for looking into the future. COUNCIL AND ADMINISTRATION RESPONSE TO CITIZENS' COMMENTS Dunham agreed with Roach's statement.
