RESOLUTION 2016-09
A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION
OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL
APPROVE THE ATTACHED ORDINANCE AMENDING THE LAND USE
PLAN AND ZONING DESIGNATION OF THE WESTSIDE OF SECOND
AVENUE BETWEEN JEFFERSON AND MADISON STREETS FROM SINGLE
FAMILY RESIDENTIAL(R1)TO URBAN RESIDENTIAL (UR)
WHEREAS, the property owners of Lots 1 through 20 of Block 26, Original Townsite
of Seward have applied for a Land Use Plan and Zoning designation change from Single Family
Residential (RI)to Urban Residential (UR); and
WHEREAS, Lots 1 through 16, are currently zoned Single Family Residential (R1) and
developed with a large church, single family homes and open space; and
WHEREAS, Lots 17-20, are currently zoned Urban Residential (UR), Lots 17 & 18 are
undeveloped and Lots 19&20 contain a single family home; and
WHEREAS,the Urban Residential (UR) zoning district was established to provide areas
of higher density mixed residential uses from detached single-family housing to multi-family
apartments in conjunction with compatible low impact professional office uses in the area
surrounding the downtown business district; and
WHEREAS, the public notification process was complied with and the appropriate
public hearing as required by Seward City Code § 15.01.040 was conducted by the Commission
on July 19,2016.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
Section 1. The Seward Planning and Zoning Commission supports the proposed Land
Use Plan and Zoning Map amendments and recommends the attached Ordinance 2016-_ be
forwarded to City Council for approval.

Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 19th day of
July 2016.
