Chronology of Odor Mitigation at LPWWTP
• Fall of 2013, staff discussed the need for odor control
• Winter/Spring of 2014,the odors at the facility disappeared (for the most part)
• Dissolved Oxygen levels, B.O.D.,TSS, and other performance levels were normal
• March/April/May/June 2014 staff researched odor control products
• Early June 2014, staff ordered 4 Microbubble Aerators
• 4 Microbubble Aerators shipped from Texas to Alaska on June 13th, arriving into Seward July 2nd
• July 23, 2014 DEC approved the use of the aerators and they were turned on
• July 2014 staff placed 400#order for Calcium Nitrate with PRC (Pacific Rim Chemicals) by phone
• In July, Staff received verbal approval via phone from ADEC for use of Calcium Nitrate at Lagoon
• In July, PRC ordered chemicals, (from the West Coast, I believe)...I do know that they came from
South 48
• Ron Harvey with PRC, called that Calcium Nitrate had arrived at the Port of Anchorage July 29-
30, 2014, by barge
• PRC had bags of chemicals delivered to Palmer at their warehouse on July 30
• Staff received written approval (w/conditions) to use Calcium Nitrate on July 30, 2014
• Staff received invoice for Calcium Nitrate on August 1, 2014
• Staff made arrangements with Portage Transport to pick up chemicals on Saturday, August 2,
2014
• Staff worked on Saturday to begin building apparatus to add chemical at#3 Lift Station
• Alaska Rural Water Association Circuit Rider, Sarah, was notified chemicals were in Seward,
Monday August 4, 2014
• Sarah with ARWA, traveled to Seward (free of charge), and assisted with applying 200#'s of
Calcium Nitrate to LPWWTP on Tuesday, August 5, 2014
