SEWARD ANIMAL SHELTER, IN AN AMOUNT NOT TO EXCEED
$6,851.00, AND APPROPRIATING FUNDS
WHEREAS, there has been expressed interest by various parties to relocate and build a new

WHEREAS, the City has received requests for improvement to the current animal shelter to
ensure the safety and well-being of employees, citizens, and animals until a long-term solution can
be found; and

repairs would not be sufficient, and that the shelter would instead need a new roof; and
WHEREAS, the City has received a bid to replace the roof at a cost of $6,851.00, which is in
addition to the costs previously approved by Council.

Agenda Statement
Meeting Date: June 12, 2017
To: Seward City Council
Through: Jim Hunt, City Manager
From: Tom Clemons, Chief of Police
Agenda Item: New roof for the Seward Animal Shelter
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
The Administration has received several calls requesting help for general repairs to the Seward
Animal Shelter. In February of 2017, City Council approved an appropriation of money to pay for
improvements to the shelter. Repairs are currently underway at the shelter. During the repair process,
it was brought to the attention of the Chief of Police, that the Seward Animal Shelter is in need of a
replacement roof rather than minor repairs to the roof.
The Seward Police Department is requesting an additional appropriation of $6,851.00 to pay for the
cost of a new roof for the Seward Animal Shelter. The department will continue to seek grant funds
for the future relocation and replacement of the shelter.
INTENT: To continue the improvement of the Seward Animal Shelter for the safety of citizens,
employees, and animals.
