Seward Chamber of Commerce, CVB Cindy Clock You've most likely all read about the Community Awards dinner last Friday evening — and thanks very much to everyone that could make it. One of my favorite quotes was from Mike Ritz, owner of Alaska Marine Coatings, LLC and winner of"Business of the Year". Mike said "I've basically got the temperament of a surly 14 year-old boy and I never would've made it without the help and advice of people like Blaine Bardarson and Tom &Joe Tougas". Well said, Mike! Don't we all really"make it" only with the help of others? And I'm sure our new "Person of the Year", Jean Bardarson would quickly acknowledge that the long list of contributions she's made as City Council Woman & Mayor - she did not do on her own. City Admin, the Seward Chamber's EcDev focus groups and the citizens of Seward all helped to some degree with these achievements. At the Chamber Board of Director's meeting last week, the topic of preventing shop lifting and theft was introduced. When we bring back Don Krohn, FNBA Security Officer for a member education seminar, we'll likely try to have someone address the shoplifting issue. (The date is not yet set) It's looking like both Chamber Staff: Jen and Kris will enroll in the Small Business Management Class beginning March 6 and lasting for 10 weeks. Tom Tougas, along with a small team of local business owners and business managers, will share course content and personal insight as it relates to business management and leadership. You can go to www.ATlA.org 4 Marketing to find the entire report 0 / E?v l 2 Via 8'��F � Teen Rec Room Guidelines Izea SPRD RO) • The teen Rec Room (tRR) welcomes all teens and youth in Seward High School, Seward Middle School or Kenai Peninsula Borough schools who agree to follow guidelines. • Participants take responsibility for keeping the facility and equipment in great shape. This includes cleaning up after yourself, disposing of trash properly, putting games and equipment back in their proper place, flushing toilets after use, and turning electronics off when not in use. • Abusive or offensive language is not permitted. Repeat offenders may be dismissed from the TRR for remainder of the night, potentially longer; TRR reserves the right to suspend repeat offenders from the facility on a case-by-case basis. • No weapons of any sort are allowed on the premises including, but not limited to, knives, sling shots, guns, matches, lighters, etc. TRR Staff members may confiscate prohibited items and turn them over to the Seward Police Department (SPD). An incident report will be filed. • The City's teen REC ROOM is a Drug Free Recreational Zone, by State law definition. 1)Teens and youth are not to possess, use, or be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or tobacco within 500 feet of the TYC/TRR. All are encouraged to review the penalties of possession or use in a State Drug-Free Zone. 2)Teens and youth under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or in possession of such products, as well as tobacco products, may be reported to the Police. Teens or youth involved may be suspended from TRR and its activities for two weeks, potentially longer, depending on the severity. Upon reinstating use of TRR, teens and youth may be subject to a one month probation period. TRR staff reserves the right to suspend privileges indefinitely. An incident report will be filed. 3) Adults are encouraged to review the State law regarding 'drug-free zones.' • Disruptive behavior is strictly prohibited. Physical fighting may result in suspension from the TRR for two weeks, and often, a closure of TRR for the remainder of the evening, and notification of Parent(s)/Guardian(s) and/or Police by TRR staff. An incident report will be filed. • Chairs are to be used by one person at a time. No standing on furniture. No sitting on laps or sharing furniture that is made for one person. • Participants in a relationship must maintain a six-inch distance from/between his or her partner when sitting by each other. No 'public displays of affection' on TRR premises will be permitted. Those in violation may be subject to dismissal, or suspension. Parent(s)/Guardian(s) may be notified by TRR staff. , have read the Teen Rec Room Guidelines and agree to follow them.
