RESOLUTION 2017-03
A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD PLANNING AND ZONING
COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA,
RECOMMENDING CITY COUNCIL APPROVAL OF THE PLANNING
AND ZONING COMMISSION PRIORITIES FROM APRIL 2017 TO
APRIL 2018
WHEREAS, at the February 21, 2017 work session the Planning and Zoning
Commission reviewed their Priorities List; and
WHEREAS, the Seward City Council Rules of Procedure, adopted March 14, 1994, state
that the Council should meet in an annual joint work session with the Commission to address
areas of mutual concern; and
WHEREAS, the Commission and Council held a joint work session, reviewed and
updated the Planning and Zoning annual Priorities List on March 6, 2017; and
WHEREAS, at the April 4, 2017 meeting the Planning and Zoning Commission
reviewed the Planning and Zoning Priority List.
WHEREAS, Council will address a resolution adopting these recommendations.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
Section 1. The following List of Planning and Zoning Priorities is hereby approved and
recommended to Council for their adoption:

1) Continue to pursue compliance with the Seward City Zoning Code by prioritizing the
outstanding health and safety issues, such as snow removal, illegal camping,junk
vehicles, etc.
2) Seek additional funding for Planning& Zoning Commissioner training.
• Search out and add funding to the budget
• Maintain a Commissioner training calendar
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning Commission this 4th
day of April,2017.

• Continue to nominate Structures, Sites and Vessels to Seward Local Register

• The Commission continues to support Historical Hoben Park's restoration and is
willing to assist with planting the planters ; vati, (014,9-114.y. p144v• Participate in city administration and community dialog concerning the
preservation of the Fort Raymond - Historical Site and related artifacts.
• Actively coordinate with state and local stake holders in initiatives encouraging
preservation and regeneration of Seward Structures, Sites, Vessels and artifacts
of historical significance, including the creation of a resource template to utilize
the standardized historic preservation guidelines, to enhance and promote
beautification of the Seward area with special attention to the Historic Districts

c. Promote historic preservation initiatives and projects as enumerated in
the 2017 Historic Preservation Plan
Other Commission Tasks
• *Establish and maintain a basic working inventory of cultural resources in the
local area, compatible with the Alaska Heritage Resources Survey and
annually provide new data to the Offices of History and Archaeology (1)
