CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 80-11
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF SEWARD, ALASKA
SUPPORTING THE MOVEMENT OF GRAIN FROM
THE DELTA BARLEY PROJECT THROUGH THE PORT AT SEWARD
WHEREAS, the development of a grain crop in the interior of
Alaska is important to the economy of our state; and
WHEREAS, export of that grain may provide a long-term
renewable source of income for Alaska's economy; and
WHEREAS, the low cost transportation of that grain to the
Alaska coast is vital to its ultimate competitive selling price; and
WHEREAS, shipment of the grain by the Alaska Railroad to
the port at Seward provides the most cost effective method of overland
shipment; and
WHEREAS, use of the Alaska Ratlroad to ship fertilizer
needed in the grain project provides back-haul potential which would
make total transportation costs for the project even lower:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward hereby states its support for the
proposal to transport grain grown in the Alaskan Interior to Seward by
means of the Alaska Railroad.
Section 2. The City Manager is hereby authorized and directed
to take whatever steps are needed to communicate City support of the
proposal to move the grain by rail to Seward for loading onto ocean-
going vessels.
PASSED AND APPROVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
