Sports & Recreation
• Registration is closed for Competitive Volleyball, and will be playing host to four teams.
Registrations are, however, still open for Recreation Volleyball, and Racquetball on
www.sewardrec.com.Space is limited and sports for Recreation Volleyball are nearly full.
• Sports& Rec is also seeking qualified individuals for a Rec Assistant position.This is a year-
round,full-time position with benefits.Time is split between Sports& Rec and The Rec.
• We are still actively looking for those interested in becoming a referee as well.As always,
anyone interested in participating as a volunteer or paid referee for Volleyball and Basketball
are encouraged to email: ijones@cityofseward.net.

Teen Youth Center
• TYC I After School Program is hosting 18-25 kids per day.TYC continues to enjoy the weather for
as long as possible.
• $3 drop in fee, $30 punch Card or$200 booster pass is available online at www.sewardrec.com.
• TYC is seeking kids in grades 5-12 to apply for the Leadership Council; 2019-2020 school year.
TYC is looking for motivated participants that want to serve the community; helping with special
events and fundraisers.The volunteer hours that kids put in now can lead to scholarships.
Interested participants can fill out an application and return it to Josie
imcclain@cityofseward.net at the TYC or Meredith mlins@cityofseward.net at"The Rec".

• On September 6,TYC hosted First Friday Fun for 4th and 5th graders. The theme was Back to
School; 7 kids attended.
• Upcoming events include Second Saturday Social for families with the theme of Music and
Movement. Registration is online at www.sewardrec.com
• The staff is beginning the planning of fall special events; Glacier Family Medicine Pumpkin Prowl
at a new location of First Lake, Family Masquerade Ball at our new location of The Rec,the
Community Halloween Carnival located at Alaska Rail Road Terminal. Halloween themed dances
and School's Out Day Camps.
• The TYC is preparing for the possibility of schools closing due to teachers strike. We anticipate
opening for camp should the schools close. Registration will be online at www.sewardrec.com at
a first come first serve basis.
Campground & Park Maintenance
• Maintenance and winterization of equipment
• Playgrounds and Parks inspections
• Camping season is winding down, but we are planning on a good turnout for the Seward Music
and Arts Fest
• Painting of Forest Acres restroom complete
• Cutting and cleaning up brush around the warehouse
• Removing manmade fire pits in the campgrounds
• Removing rocks that have been placed in the campgrounds
• Shower house repairs
• Training employees on the toolcat as we prepare to stack picnic tables and car stops in the
campgrounds and parking lots.
The City of Seward is now accepting payment for cemetery plot reservations. Individuals pay$500 per
cremains or burial site in the new cemetery section. See forms online at
www.cityofseward.us/cemetery.
