CLINTON CRITES AS FIRE CHIEF WHEREAS, Seward City Code § 2.20.015 requires the City Manager's appointment for the Fire Chief position to receive approval from the City Council; and WHEREAS, the Fire Chief position was opened for recruitment, and Deputy FueChief, R Clinton Crites applied for and was offered the position; and WHEREAS, Mr.Crites is an asset to the City's administration team,the Fire Department and the community; and WHEREAS, in addition to serving as the City of Seward's Deputy Fire Chief since September 2018, Mr. Crites has over 21 years of experience in the field of firefighting and emergency services; and WHEREAS, Mr. Crites' certifications include Firefighter II, Fire Investigator, Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer II, Hazardous Material Operations/Hazwoper Technician, Fire Inspector I&II, State of Alaska Intensive Care Paramedic, and many others too numerous to list,making Mr. Crites uniquely and highly qualified. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: Section 1. Clinton Crites as Fire Chief BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION: The City of Seward, Fire Chief position was opened internally following vacancy. An onsite interview was conducted by the City Manager and an interview committee. Based on education, experience and communication skills, R. Clinton Crites was selected for the Fire Chief position via internal promotion. Mr. Crites has been serving as the Deputy Fire Chief since September 2018, and has served as the second in command at events during that time. Mr. Crites is extensively qualified and holds multiple certifications including: Firefighter II, Fire Investigator, Fire Instructor II, Fire Officer II, Hazardous Material Operations/Hazwoper Technician, Fire Inspector I&II and State of Alaska Intensive Care Paramedic. Deputy Chief Crites has over 21years of experience in the firefighting/fire safety field and enjoys a good working relationship with multiple local fire safety and medical organizations.
