CALL TO ORDER
The January 9,2020 regular meeting of the Historic Preservation Commission was called to
order at 7:33 p.m.by Chair Cheryl Seese.

City Administration Report—None
Chair Report. Cheryl Seese welcomed Mary Ann Benoit to the commission, pending
council's approval at the January 13, 2020 council meeting.
Jesse Lee Home—None
Fort Raymond Subdivision—None
CLG Grant — Wolfgang Kurtz said letters of support from local organizations and
businesses needed to be included with the C.L.G Grant application. Commissioners volunteered to
gather these letters of support and turn them in to the clerk.

Deputy Clerk Jessica Stallard reminded the commission that they had the option to call
special meetings between their regular meetings as needed.The commission discussed the possibility
of having a special meeting to review and approve the Certified Local Government(C.L.G.)Grant on
January 23, 2020.
Seward Historic Inventory List. Cheryl Seese said the Seward Historic Inventory List,
which was last updated in March 2019,was provided in the packet. In response to French,Seese said
the Seward Historic Inventory List had been provided to Jean Ayers at the State Historic Preservation
Office(S.H.P.0).
Motion (Ward/Kurtz) Add "Update the Seward Historic
Inventory List"as a topic for the February
13, 2020 work session.

Historic Overlay District. Sue Ward said she would be discussing the Historic Overlay
District at the February 13, 2020 meeting.

the clerk to bring back a substitute
resolution on February 13, 2020.

Review, revise, set deadline, and approve notice to solicit HP Award nominations.
Motion (Kurtz/French) Approve the HP Award nominations notice.

changing the deadline to April 1, 2020.
Motion died due to lack of second.
Motion to Amend (French/Seese) Amend the HP Award nominations notice

The commission directed the clerk to add"Rockwell Kent Centennial"as a standing report on future

INFORMATIONAL ITEMS AND REPORTS
2019 HP Report to Council
COMMISSIONERS COMMENTS
Seese requested that the commissioners notify the clerk as soon as possible when they will be
absent from work sessions or meetings. She thanked Mary Ann Benoit for volunteering to join HP.
Ward commended Seese for running a good meeting.
Kurtz said the Federal budget was passed and approved by Congress for a few million
dollars more than last year.The state funds available for the C.L.G grant went down from$25,000 to3
$24,000. The Alaska Women's Hall of Fame was soliciting nominations for significant women and

L their deadline for nominations was January 15,2020.The National Trust for Historic Preservations
was offering grants ranging from $2,500 to $5,000. The 2020 National Preservation Award
nominations were due February 13, 2020. He said he would like to attend the National Historic
Preservation Forum in Tacoma, WA this year.
