MEMORANDUM
TO: Port and Commerce Advisory Board
FROM: Cory Borgeson, Interim Utility Manager Electric Department
SUBJECT: OUTLINE FOR SEPTEMBER 16, 2020 WORKSHOP
DATE: September 11, 2020
The Seward Electric Department is pleased to be able to bring several stakeholders
together to have a workshop on interconnection practices and opportunities for customers
served by Seward Electric.
We expect to have 10-minute presentations or updates from Matanuska Electric
Association, Homer Electric Association and Golden Valley Electric Association. They will
discuss their current policies and procedures and give updates on trends they are seeing at
their utilities.
Phil Kaluza, a Seward Electric customer, will discuss his experience, including
frustrations, with getting his PV system connected under Sewards interconnection tariff. I
am hoping that this time will be productive to start looking at any additional changes that
need to get made to Seward Tariff.
Adrian Chavez of Renewable Energy Systems of Alaska will present for about 10
minutes on opportunities for having PVsystems installed. RES has put PV systems in
Seward for customers who are not connected to Seward Electric, so they are familiar with
the conditions andopportunities for PV in Seward.
Materials for the meeting includes the Net metering rules adopted by the RCA, the
interconnection rules for Homer Electric, and some information on Renewable Energy
Systems of Alaska. The utilities will go first and I would suggest that any questions for
presenters be made at the end of their comments.
