Mayor, Council members, Administration and members of the public, Lynda
Paquette outside city limits
Thank you for the opportunity to speak with you this evening.
I want to congratulate the new council members and also Mr. Baclan for the
appointment of vice-mayor. You are well deserving of the honor. Again, thank you
to the new council members for being prepared to get to work their first night!
I was disappointed to hear comments about how the work you did at the last
meeting "looked bad." I listened to this from multiple people around town.
Council is supposed to act as a body, as I understand it. So regardless of your
personal opinions, once a vote has gets made, it becomes the body's vote. I think
this is the way it's supposed to work, so I would ask for the sake of what's best for
Seward that you stand together. The only thing that looked bad was the bad-
mouthing of the decision after the meeting and the subsequent pot-stirring. That
didn't look nice. But a new Council being prepared to work and willing to make
the long-needed changes, no, that did not look bad until it became a gossip point.
You should have been proud! As a WE LOVE US community, we should be striving
to work together even in the face of disagreement.
Regarding filling the position of City Manager, I hope you will skip looking for an
Interim CM. Mr. Regis did a great job in the spring of 2019 in that position, and if
he's willing to serve in the CM capacity, then you are in great hands until you can
find a new permanent CM.
I also hope there is a possibility of both having the Gov HR firm recruit, based on
their contract, and at the same time having the City recruit. The City had
excellent results when they recruited for the Interim City Manager position in
2018, and Gov HR had disappointing results for the permanent CM overall. Given
the time of year we're in; it seems appropriate to conduct your searches
concurrently if that's possible. This should give you ample time to be able to make
a decision to have someone new here before summer hits.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
