HomeMy WebLinkAbout02172021 PACAB Work Session Laydown - Smith Renewauie Energy Education Offerings OREAP Alaska Projectergy 210217 PACAB WS K-12 outreach LAYDOWN - SMITH • What: Hands-on clean energy lessons from AK EnergySmart, KidWind, and NEED • Who: K-12 students in Alaska • Where: State-wide, in-person and virtually • Length: From one-time lesson to two-week units • Cost: Free (may ask host to cover lodging depending on situation) • Examples: Electricity audit of classroom, test blades on a model wind turbine; five day clean energy camp Educator Trainings • What: Introduce free curricula and hands-on practice of lessons • Who: K-12 teachers and informal educators • Where: Staff meetings, teacher conferences, or local campus, etc;virtually statewide or in-person at hub communities • Length: From 30 minute presentations to two-day trainings • Cost: Free (may ask host to cover lodging and/or conference fees depending on situation) • Examples: • One continuing education credit for recertification and step promotions o All trainings include supplies for teachers to keep • In-person trainings include tours of local projects and local guest speakers o Virtual trainings include guest speakers from around the state Educator Kits • What: Supplies to use for hands-on clean energy lessons in K-12 classrooms,with suggested lessons; subject to availability • Who: K-12 teachers and informal educators �\ • Where: Kits to keep are shipped to educators state-wide; supplies for borrowing available in Anchorage, Mat-Su or Juneau ' • Cost: Free • Examples: Electricity monitors; model wind turbine, model solar panels,vacuum bell jars; ice melting blocks Adult Education I I • What: Present topics on clean energy in Alaska, from basic overview of energy landscape to in-depth examinations of a special topic / • Who: Residents, community leaders, business owners, professionals • Where: Conferences, public events,webinars, community meetings/events,special events • Length: From 30 minute presentations to 2 day trainings • Cost: Free (may ask host to cover lodging and/or conference fees depending on situation) • Examples: o Renewable Radio Podcast (available on iTunes, Spotify, etc.) o Hands-on workshops on energy efficiency and conservation o Presentation and table at community energy fair Contact Colleen Fisk (education@a realaska.org) in Mat-Su, Tyler Katzmar (tkatzmar@a realaska.org) in Anchorage, or Clay Good (cgood@a realaska.org) in Juneau for more information Attend Events We organize educational forums in communities across the state, including conferences, workshops and other convenings.
