HomeMy WebLinkAboutRes2004-077 I I I Sponsored by: Shealy CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA SUBSTITUTE RESOLUTION 2004-77 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA IN SUPPORT OF THE MULTI-AGENCY CENTER AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE SEWARD CONFERENCE CENTER WITHIN THIS PROJECT WHEREAS, the City of Seward recognizes that the development of a Multi-Agency Center that co-locates federal and state administrative offices and visitor components into a single building that also includes a conference center represents a significant opportunity to keep jobs in Seward thereby expanding our economy; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has supported this concept for many years and has demonstrated its commitment by resolution and investment as well being a co-signer on a previous project Memorandum of Agreement; and WHEREAS, the City Council approved Resolution 2003-140, which requested funding for a Multi-Agency Center that includes a conference center as a federa11egislative priority; and WHEREAS, the City Council approved Resolution 2003-100 adopting the Seward Waterfront Study which supports the development of a Multi-Agency Center including a co-located conference center as part of the revitalization of downtown Seward; and WHEREAS, a conference center as part of the Multi-Agency Center is a viable option available for creating a financially sustainable conference facility in Seward in that construction costs are to be federally funded and operational costs will be shared with other users; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA that: Section 1. The City Council supports the Multi-Agency Center including the Seward Conference Center being constructed in downtown Seward to further economic development. Section 2. The administration is directed to take an active lead role in pursuing and helping to develop the plan for the Multi-Agency Center and Seward Conference Center. Section 3. The Conference Center must become a self sustaining facility, operated under an appropriate management agreement to be determined. CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2004-77 Section 4. The Multi-Agency Center and Seward Conference Center will be developed consistent with the Seward Waterfront Study as previously approved and designed in such a manner so as to insure maximum visitor impact and pleasure. Section 5. This resolution shall take affect immediately upon its adoption. PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 12th day of July, 2004. ~H~.
