COUNCIL AGENDA STATEMENT
Meeting Date: July 14, 2004
Through: Phil Shealy, City Manager
From: Dave Calvert, Manager, Electric Utility
Agenda Item: Electric Department Vehicle
BACKGROUND & JUSTIFICATION:
Vehicle #502, a 1999 Ford 3/4 ton pickup, has reached the point where it is uneconomical to continue
to repair. The vehicle maintenance log is attached showing the most recent repairs as well as a host
of other repairs over the years. It has become an unreliable vehicle for a department which needs
reliability and it is prudent to now dispose of the vehicle by trade towards the purchase of a
replacement vehicle.
Therefore, it is recommended that this vehicle be traded in on a 2004 Dodge Ram 3/4 ton Pickup
priced at $31,101.00 less $7,600.00 in trade for a net price of $23,501.00. The quote from the
dealer, Kenai Chrysler Center, is attached.
The Electric Department has over $100,000.00 in our motor pool fund which can be used to purchase
this new vehicle. Under Seward City Code Section 6.10.120(b), the City may utilize competitive bids
obtained by other governmental units. This vehicle is being purchased under State of Alaska Bid
Number TB-063-505.
