Council, Mayor, Manager and all
I spent earlier today getting soaked working in my yard. Even as I enjoyed the outdoor environment, I
determined to join you tonight. We have good news from our DOE rc ;artiiri;;the Heat Loop Grant, with
more reports to follow. The City has a new Finance Director and a soon to be seated City Manager. Also
an active an engaged Electric Ad Hoc Group. All good positive things.
For tonight's meeting I offer these few views .
Action Memo 2023-013 offers a list of hopeful projects to improve the Community of Seward. A similar
list of 13 items was reviewed by PACAB and well discussed. PACAB passed Resolution 2023-003 that
included support of a recreation center. Presentation and testimony was heard from stake holders. It
may have been missed somehow but I would encourage Council to amend the Action Memo to include
support of a Community Rec center. The details of how, what or by whom is ongoing. Having this item
listed in priorities only offers a focus for a facility this community needs. Not all residents use hunting
and fishing as a primary recreation and after hour opportunities are very limited. Certainly an option to
Television or the Internet is needed The addition of the new Harbor Office and the listing of a Rec center
add up to 14 items.
2023-098 has been a long time coming and the efforts of the Acting Manager needs special appreciation.
Bringing the USCG to Seward in this way is good for Seward and the Nation.
2023-096 The Seward Airport. This preliminary action will only move the discussion along. Do not forget
how DOT has taken advantage of Seward with changes in City Managers, skewed reports, igmorance of
users or potential users and lack of vison or fore thought. The passing of the Action cannot and must not
be construed as support of their tactics.
