THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 489
WHEREAS, additional recreational sites and campsites are needed in
the Seward area to accommodate the tourists and AlBkan recreation-
alists visiting this area; and
WHEREAS, it is planned to continue development of the tourist and
recreation program, making a need for even more such sites; and
WHEREAS, increased tourist and recreational business will benefit
the economy of Seward and the Kenai Peninsula Borough; and
WHEREAS, the Kenai Peninsula Borough may select suitable State lands
to then convey to The City of Seward for such purposes;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the following sites are deter-
mined to be and are recommended as desirable and suitable recrea-
tional sites or campsites; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Kenai Peninsula Borough be and is
hereby requested to select or otherwise secure the following des-
cribed lands to be used for recreational sites or campsites and to
then convey said lands to The City of Seward for such purposes. In
the event that it is not possible to secure all of the below listed
sites at this time, the Kenai Peninsula Boruugh is hereby requested
to secure the sites in the priority order listed below:
A suitable site sufficient in area to accommodate campsite units,
as defined by Federal regulation, in the numbers below listed:
No. 1 Priority Site - Near Lowell Glacier in Resurrection River
Canyon Northwest of Seward - 144 campsite units to be developed
over a period of 12 years at the rate of 12 units per year.
No. 2 Priority Site - On Caines Head on the West shore of Resur-
rection Bay - 144 campsite units to be developed over a period of
12 years at the rate of 12 units per year.
No.3 Priority Site - At the head of and on the South shore of
Thumbs Cove on the East shore of Resurrection Bay - 100 campsite
units to be developed over a period of ten years at the rate of
10 units per year.
No. 4 Priority Site - Near Bear Glacier on the West shore of
Resurrection Bay - 36 campsite units to be developed over a per-
iod of 10 years.
Passed and appraoved by The Common Council of The City of Seward,
Alaska, this 17th day of January, 1966.
