In 1914 the US Congress funded
construction of the railroad from Fairbank
to Seward. By 1915, the connection to
Anchorage we completed, and the railroad
moved its headquarters to Seward.
The Alaska Railroad owns approximately
328 acres in a land reserve, which is used
mostly for train operations, includes
Seward Cruise Ship Terminal facilities, the
docks and adjacent uplands, all to support
intermodal operations.
