PORT OF SEWARD Port History In 1914 the US Congress funded construction of the railroad from Fairbank to Seward. By 1915, the connection to Anchorage we completed, and the railroad moved its headquarters to Seward. The Alaska Railroad owns approximately 328 acres in a land reserve, which is used mostly for train operations, includes Seward Cruise Ship Terminal facilities, the docks and adjacent uplands, all to support intermodal operations.
