RESOLUTION NO. 547
vlliEREAS, our Sister All-America City, Valdez, lost her fire-fighting equip-
ment in the Great Alaskan Earthquake in 1964; and
WHEREAS, the Valdez townsite was rendered untenable by the Earthquake, and
Valdez is presently rebuIlding and relocating the entire city; and
I~EREAS, Valdez has no fire-fighting equipment at all to station at the new
townsite, which causes undue risk and very expensive fire insurance rates;
and
v~EREAS, The City of Seward has a suitable fire engine which is over and
above our needs; and
WHEREAS, The Seward City Council, in full understanding of the problems
Valdez is so valiantly meeting in rebuilding its city, and in appreciation
of the dedicated community spirit of the Mayor, Council and Citizens of
the City of Valdez, desires to assist its Sister All-America City in this
matter;
NOw, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the No. 2 Engine, a 1941 Model Ford
Pumper Truck, Serial No. 99T499973, shall be loaned to the City of Valdez
for about six months or until their new fire engine arrives at a rental fee
of $100 per month and with the condition that the City of Valdez shall
purchase insurance to protect The City of Seward from any liability resulting
therefrom, and from any loss by fire or theft, while rented by the City of
Valdez.
This Resolution to be in effect on the date of passage and approval.
Passed and approved by The City Council of The City of Seward, Alaska, this
18th day of July, 1966.
