HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES2024-073 Hazard Mitigation Plan1 1 1 Sponsored by: Sorensen CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA RESOLUTION 2024-073 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ADOPTING THE 2024 CITY OF SEWARD HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN WITH THE KENAI PENINSULA BOROUGH AND CITY OF SELDOVIA WHEREAS, the City of Seward recognizes the threat that natural hazards pose to people and property within the City of Seward; and WHEREAS, the City of Seward has prepared a multi -hazard mitigation plan, hereby known as 2024 City of Seward Hazard Mitigation Plan with the Kenai Peninsula Borough (KPB) and City of Seldovia in accordance with federal laws, including the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, as amended; the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended; and the National Dam Safety Program Act, as amended; and WHEREAS, the 2024 City of Seward Hazard Mitigation Plan with the KPB and City of Seldovia identifies mitigation goals and actions to reduce or eliminate long-term risk to people and property in the City of Seward from the impacts of future hazards and disasters; and WHEREAS, the adoption of the plan by the City of Seward demonstrates its commitment to hazard mitigation and achieving the goals outlined in the 2024 City of Seward Hazard Mitigation Plan with the KPB and City of Seldovia. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that: Section 1. The City Council hereby adopts the 2024 City of Seward Hazard Mitigation Plan with the KPB and City of Seldovia. Section 2. While content related to the City of Seward may require revisions to meet the plan approval requirements, changes occurring after adoption will not require the City of Seward to re -adopt any further iterations of the plan. Section 3. Subsequent plan updates following the approval period for this plan will require separate adoption resolutions. Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon adoption. The City of Seward recognizes the threat that natural hazards pose to people and property within the City of Seward. Through assistance from the Kenai Peninsula Borough (KPB), the City of Seward has prepared a multi -hazard mitigation plan, hereby known as the 2024 City of Seward Hazard Mitigation Plan with the KPB and City of Seldovia. This HMP complies with federal and state hazard mitigation planning laws such as the Robert T. Stafford Disaster Relief and Emergency Assistance Act, as amended; the National Flood Insurance Act of 1968, as amended; and the National Dam Safety Program Act, as amended.
