St. Peter's Episcopal Church Preservation Plan
Questions & Key Notes for Discussion
1. What is the status of this project?
2. Who is involved?
3. Who do we need to get involved?
4. Create a Statement of Need.
5. What are our Objectives and Goals?
6. Who can we obtain letters of support from for Part 2?
Recommendations Timeline & Guidelines:
Part 1: Apply for a Grant to get a new Condition Survey (2025)
A. Needed! A survey and condition report of the current state of St. Peter's.
B. Structural Assessment: October 24, 2018 — BBFM Engineers Inc.
a. Suggestions: Continue maintenance of the exterior; Cedar shake walls are
experience saturation from water and some level of rot — will need
replacement; Roof leak & advanced degrading of the building walls &
windowsill; recommend survey and repair of underlaying ice and water
shield; recommend placement of new insulation above the ceiling.
b. Question: Have any of the recommendations been put in place? Do we have
more of these assessments?
c. Next Steps: Hire a contractor to conduct a new Structural Assessment. Has
this been done? Contractor List (SPHO WEBSITE)
d. Funding: CLG Grant & Historic Preservation Fund Grant through SHPO can
support this action.
Part 2: Receive Assessment and Apply for Project Grant (2025-2026)
A. Preservation Grant Application based on new condition assessment:
a. Create Timeline
b. Include who (HPC, volunteers, consultants, ownership)
c. Outline treatments for St. Peter's — who; what; where; when (Note: it needs to
meet Secretary of the Interior Standards)

d. Come up with a Post -Project maintenance plan
e. Outline threats
f. Outline goals and objectives
i. What are our short-term goals':
ii. What are our long-term goals?
iii. Examples: stabilization, restoration, reuse for services, visitor access
(tourism, event venue, & artifact displays)
g. Collect Community Letters of Support: Other businesses, City Council,
SHPO support, Congregation support.
h. Funding: Save America's Treasures — National Park Service Grant provides
the most $$$
Part 3: Hire Contractor and Begin Project (Summer 2026)
A. Outline Evaluation Process: Set up a timeline for preservation actions & "who" will
be evaluating post project through regular assessments.
