Policy #2023-06
Applicable to All Employees
Children in the Workplace Policy
For the purposes of this policy, children are defined as anyone under 18 or unable to care for
themselves. Workplace is defined as any city office, vehicle, building or worksite.
A.As employees’ children are not covered by the city’s insurance policy for accidents or injuries
they may sustain, children are not allowed in the workplace. Employees who need to attend
to childcare or bring a child to the workplace should expect to take personal leave.
B.With permission from a supervisor or department head as to each occasion, an employee who
needs to attend to childcare can occasionally work from home if this can be accomplished
with no loss of productivity.
C.Supervisors are responsible for ensuring this policy is enforced.
Nothing in this policy precludes an employee from taking an authorized break to visit with their
child or other family member who stop by for a brief visit.
