Since the company is already in town, the Public Works Department asked for an estimate for prep and overlaying pavement on Bette Cato Avenue, a road leading to the Spring Creek Correctional Facility, and the City's SMIC water plant. Because they will already be working in the Seward, McKenna Brothers Paving can provide a lower cost for a 2-inch asphalt cap, with all subgrade and preparation work. This proposal includes, paving with a minimum 2-inch asphalt cap for a span of approximately 1,525 feet long by 25 feet wide, which calculates to 38,125 square feet. This new pavement will save the city in the long run by eliminating potholes, cracks, and dips that can damage expensive plowing equipment, complicate snow removal, and increase maintenance costs.
