This was a much -needed restoration and relocation of the 50-ton lift pit at that facility which was constructed in 1965 and considered to be in poor condition at that time. This upgrade included bulkhead for new pit, decking, bull rail, lighting, power pedestal, fender/structural piling repair and ladders. After a critical incident at a low tide, it was discovered that the ladders installed on I and T dock don't extend far enough down to safely exit the water at lower tides. The distance between the water and lowest rung is nearly impossible to allow for self -rescue. Coupled with the possibility of other injuries sustained during a fall the risk to life and safety necessitates immediate action. The department is requesting to hire a local vendor to fabricate ladder extensions to modify the current ladders. This will improve the odds of escape from the water if an individual falls from a dock or vessel.
