The department's request to purchase a new vehicle is multi -faceted. First, we recognize the benefit that upgrading to a newer vehicle has from a safety and reliability standpoint but also the potential benefits that a newer vehicle has to the environment. Second, we have staggered the department's fleet of vehicles to maintain a more even and planned budget with the belief they should be replaced every ten years before any major mechanical failures need to be addressed. This method allows us flexibility to adjust our purchases if needed and still be planned and not reactive. After receiving and reviewing 4 competitive quotes from Anchorage area dealers, it was determined that Swickard Chevrolet Buick GMC of Anchorage offers the best value. We are requesting approval for the purchase of a new 2026 Chevrolet 1500 from Swickard of Anchorage. This quote includes a set of winter tires of rims, bedliner, headache rack and running boards for $48,408 plus a 10% contingency.
