RESOLUTION NO. 634
WHEREAS, the custom of decorating the graves of those who
died in defense of their country is of great antiquity: and
WHEREAS, this custom first became the formal observance of
Memorial Day on May 30, 1869: and
WHEREAS, The City of seward is truly grateful for those who
have made this supreme sacrifice and proud of those who are
serving our Nation today: and
WHEREAS, the Seward Chamber of Commerce are showing their
appreciation by saluting the united States Army and Air
Force Recreation Centers with an openhouse celebration at
the Jesse Lee Home grounds.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that May 30, 1967 be set apart
as a special day of quiet reverence to those who gave so much
that we may live in peace and prosperity and hearty commendation
to those who are now serving to preserve that same peace and
prosperity.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the people of Seward reflect upon
these gifts and display their appreciation by participating
in public and private ceremonies and particularly the activities
of the Chamber of Commerce held this May 30, 1967.
This Resolution to be effective on date of passage and approval.
Passed and approved by the City Council of The City of Seward,
Alaska, this 15th day of May, 1967.

WHEREAS, this is the year commemorating the lOath anniversary . \
of the purchase of the Alaska Territory from Russia in 1867; and
WHEREAS, the Governor of Alaska has proclaimed this the year
of the Alaska Purchase Centennial; and
WHEREAS, the city of Fairbanks has been designated as the
Official Centennial Site for the State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the cities and the people of Alaska are joining in
this celebration of the Centennial; and
WHEREAS, the Alaska 67 Exposition in Fairbanks opens on
Saturday, May 27, 1967;
NOW, THEREFORE, we, the Mayor and City Council of Seward,
acting on behalf of the people and City of Seward, do commend
the City and the people of Fairbanks for its Alaska 67 Centennial
Exposition; and do offer this as our endorsement to the citizens
of Seward to visit the Alaska 67 Centennial Exposition in this
year and period of celebration; and
Offer this salute to our sister city of Fairbanks, as w~,
Seward and Fairbanks, and our people share together in the
growth of this great state, and do proclaim Saturday, May 27, 1967,
to be Alaska 67 Day in Seward, to be recognized by all our citizens.
We seal this with our names and offer this in publication
of our commendation, endorsement, proclamation, and good will.
