To Whom It May Concern,
Laydown March 9, 2026 CC Meeting
The City of Seward is pleased to express our strong support for the continued and expanded
presence of the United States Coast Guard in the Seward area.
Seward, Alaska is advantageously located to support expanded United States Coast Guard
presence and future maritime industry growth. As one of the northernmost ice -free, year-round
deepwater ports in the United States, Seward serves as a critical maritime gateway connecting
Alaska's road, rail, and marine transportation networks in one location. Paired significant
industrial waterfront, unmatched multimodal logistics, direct deepwater access, strong
workforce development through Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC), and a supportive
community investing in housing and services, Seward offers one of the most strategically
advantageous sites on Alaska's coastal network.
The City of Seward values the Coast Guard as a trusted partner in safeguarding our waters and
supporting the maritime industries that sustain our community. We recognize the importance of
maintaining a strong federal presence in coastal Alaska and welcome opportunities to
collaborate on efforts that improve infrastructure, response readiness, and long-term
operational capacity in Seward.
We appreciate the Coast Guard's longstanding service to Alaska and strongly support initiatives
that would expand its capabilities in Seward. Please do not hesitate to reach out if the City can
provide additional information or assistance.
Best,
Mayor Sue McClure
