THE CITY OF SEWARD
RESOLUTION NO. 864
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF SEWARD REQUESTING
GOVERNOR WILLIAM A. EGAN 'ID TAKE IMMEDIATE IN-
VESTIGATIVE MEASURES REGARDING THE ALASKA COURT
REFORM BAIL SYSTEM PRESENTLY IN EFFECT.
WHEREAS, residents of the City of Seward have become alarmed at the number
of felOny offenders that are being allowed to post no bail, or low bail,
pending Criminal Trial, and
WHEREAS, The Taxpayer is obligated through taxation to support large local
Police Departments to cope with the large number of crimes being commited
by persons released without posting bail, or a very low bail, and
WHEREAS, the majority of Citizens are concerned regarding the dangerous
situations being encountered on our public streets by criminals committing
Armed Robberies, Assaults and Burglaries, while out of custody, on low or
no bail,
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Corrmon Council of the City of Seward,
Alaska, that Governor William A. Egan be, and he is hereby requested to,
take immediate investigative measures to assure a thorough investigation
regarding Alaska Bail Reform, The Ten Percent Section of the Reform Act,
and the number of serious crimes being commited by persons after being re-
leased from custody on no, or low bail.
This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon approval.
Passed and approved this 27th day of November, 1972.
