CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 82-l3
A RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE OFFICIAL
NAMING OF EXIT GLACIER
WHEREAS, Kenai Fjords National Park was established
on December 2, 19801 and
WHEREAS, Exit Glacier, in the northern portion of
the park, has long been recognized as an interesting and
enjoyable destination for visitors to the areal and
WHEREAS, pedestrian access to Exit Glacier will be
realized in 1982 with the completion of a foot bridge
across Resurrection Riverl and
WHEREAS, vehicle access will be provided to the base
of Exit Glacier upon completion of a permanent bridge to
be constructed across Resurrection Riverl and
WHEREAS, Exit Glacier is the only northern extention
of the massive Harding Icefield accessible by roadl and
WHEREAS, Exit Glacier has not been offically named
by the U.S. Board on Geographic Namesl and
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the City of Seward that
Exit Glacier receive this official recognitionl
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Exit Glacier be officially named Exit
Glacier by the U.S. Board on Geographic Names.
Section 2. A copy of this resolution shall be sent
to the Honorable Lee McAnerney, Chairperson, Alaska State
Geographic Boardl Donald J. Orth, Executive Secretary for
Domestic Names, U.S. Board on Geographic Namesl Brent
Whitmore, President, Seward Chamber of Commerce I and to
the Honorable Ted Stevens and the Honorable Frank
Murkowski, U.S. Senators, and the Honorable Don Young,
U.S. Representative, members of the Alaska delegation
in Congress.
