RESOLUTION NO. 99-041
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, SUPPORTING HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION NO. 13 RELATING
TO USING OIL SPILL FUNDS TO CREATE A LONG- TERM FOR
RESEARCH AND MONITORING ENDOWMENT
WHEREAS, the biological resources of the northern Gulf of Alaska were affected by the
Exxon Valdez oil spill on March 24, 1989; and
WHEREAS, the limits of the existing investment authority of Exxon Valdez Oil Spill (EVOS)
Trustee Council have resulted in the loss of potential earnings; and
WHEREAS, to effectively address restoration needs in the future and support a
comprehensive program that maintains its value over time, the EVOS council's investment authority
must be amended by the Congress; and
WHEREAS, our Juneau lobbyist contacted the administration to make the city aware of this
legislation; and
WHEREAS, the administration presented the council with House Joint Resolution No. 13
at our March 22, 1999 city council meeting;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward supports House Joint Resolution No. 13 relating to using oil
spill settlement funds to create a long-term research and monitoring endowment
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council ofthe City of Seward, Alaska, this 12 day
of April, 1999.
