RESOLUTION NO. 99-052
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, OPPOSING THE ALASKA STATE LEGISLATURE'S PROPOSAL
TO ELIMINATE STATE REVENUE SHARING AND SAFE COMMUNITIES
ASSISTANCE TO MUNICIPALITIES
WHEREAS, municipalities' programs and services that residents rely on throughout Alaska
are highly dependent on the receipt of State Revenue Sharing and Safe Communities Program funds;
and
WHEREAS, the citizen's of the City of Seward are also citizen's of the State of Alaska; and
WHEREAS, the elimination of these programs does not constitute a state budget reduction,
but a shifting of the budget burden to the local governments; and
WHEREAS, the State of Alaska has a responsibility to share a portion of state revenues with
municipalities, especially revenues generated from natural resources, such as oil;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward, Alaska hereby strongly opposes the reduction or elimination
of the State Revenue Sharing and Safe Communities Programs.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 26 day
of April, 1999.
