RESOLUTION 2001-034
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, TEMPORARILY RELOCATING, ON A TRIAL BASIS, THE
SEWARD CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS, CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS,
AND PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION MEETINGS TO THE
INSTITUTE OF MARINE SCIENCE RAE BUILDING FOR THE MONTHS
OF APRIL AND MAY
WHEREAS,the City of Seward currently leases office space within the City of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Labor will soon vacate their portion of the second floor of
Seward City Hall and this will allow the City to use that space for city offices; and
WHEREAS,there is a goal to locate city offices into one building to facilitate public access
to city offices and administrative staff and to operate more cost effectively; and
WHEREAS, while city offices are relocating to City Hall the City has the opportunity to
incorporate into its office space design additional city office space if the City Council Chambers are
relocated; and
WHEREAS, at the February 3,2001, City Council work session/retreat the Seward City
Council requested the Administration to prepare a resolution temporarily relocating the City Council
Chambers from its present location at Seward City Hall to the Institute of Marine Science Rae
Building for the months of April and May; and
WHEREAS,in accordance with Seward City Code 2.lO.030 the City Council has considered
the reasonable accommodation of the public in deciding to temporarily relocate City Council meetings
to the new location; and
WHEREAS, Seward City Code 2.30.220 requires the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission to hold their regularly scheduled meetings in the City Council Chambers, which will now
be located at the Institute of Marine Science Building; and
WHEREAS, during the trial period the City Council Chambers at City Hall will not be
available for public use in order to approximate a realistic situation after the current chambers are
converted to city office space; and
WHEREAS, while there may be issues for the City Council to consider prior to deciding
whether or not to permanently locate the City Council and Planning and Zoning meetings from their
present location at City Hall, it is best not to address these concerns now but rather to address them
upon the completion of the two month trial period when more data is available.

RESOLUTION 2001-034
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Seward City Council Chambers, Seward City Council meetings, and Planning
and Zoning Commission meetings shall be located at the Institute of Marine Science Rae Building,
located at 125 Third Avenue, for the months of April and May, 2001.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of Seward, Alaska, this 26 day
of February, 2001.
