RESOLUTION NO. 79-39
A RESOLUTION PROVIDING FOR THE SUBMISSION TO THE
QUALIFIED ELECTORS OF THE CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, THE
QUESTION OF THE LEVYING OF A ONE PERCENT SALES TAX FOR
THE PURPOSE OF PROVIDING ADDITIONAL TELE~ISION
BROADCASTING SERVICE TO THE RESIDENTS OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, AT A SPECIAL ELECTION TO BE HELD FOR
THAT PURPOSE ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 13, 1979
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SEWARD, ALASKA, THAT:
Section l. It is hereby determined to be in the
public interest, convenience and necessity of the people of the
City of Seward, Alaska, to expand the television broadcasting
service available to the residents of the City of Seward by
entering into a contract to purchase such expanded services and
to pay for such services with the revenue generated by a one
percent sales tax levied within the city limits of the City of
Seward.
Section 2. A special election shall be held on
Tuesday, November 13, 1979, in the city of Seward, Alaska,
for the purpose of submitting the fOllowing sales tax
proposition to the qualified electors of the City of Seward for
approval or rejection. A majority of electors qualified and
voting in favor of the proposition is required for approval.
PROPOSITION NO. 1
Shall the City of Seward, Alaska, levy
a consumers' sales tax of one percent
on all retail sales, on all rents, and
on all services made or rendered within
the City, measured by the gross sales
price of the seller for the purpose of
using the revenues thereof to rent or
purchase expanded television
broadcasting services and equipment for
the residents of the City of Seward?
Section 3. The foregoing proposition shall be printed
on a ballot which may set forth other propositions, and the
proposition set forth in Section 2 shall be printed in full and
the following words shall be added as appropriate and next to a
square provided for marking the ballot:

Section 4. A person may vote at this election who
possesses the qualifications set forth in AS 15.05.010 and who
has registered pursuant to Chapter 7 of Title 15 of the Alaska
Statutes (AS 15.07.030 et seq.). The election shall be
conducted in compliance with the procedures established in
Chapter 8 of the Code of Ordinances of the City of Seward.
Section 5. Publication of this resolution shall be
made by posting a copy hereof on the City Hall Bulletin Board
for a period of ten (10) days following its passage and
approval.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the City of
Seward, Alaska, this 26th day of September , 1979.
