CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 94-045
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY SEWARD
SEWARD, ALASKA, ENCOURAGING THE STATE LEGISLATURE AND
GOVERNOR TO REFRAIN FROM MAKING ANY FURTHER REDUCTIONS TO
THE STATE REVENUE SHARING AND MUNICIPAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAMS
WHEREAS, Governor Hickel's FY 1995 budget recommends a 50% reduction in
the State Revenue Sharing and Municipal Assistance programsj and
WHEREAS, the legislature is considering 10% to 50% reductions in these
programsj and
WHEREAS, a 50% cut in revenue sharing and municipal assistance funds will
result in a loss of approximately $288,136 to the citizens of Seward and equates to a 1.9
mill tax increase for city tax payersj and
WHEREAS, these proposed cuts will not reduce the size of state government but
will merely shift the burden for basic municipal services to the local taxpayersj
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city of Seward is opposed to proposed cuts to the state's Revenues
Sharing and Municipal Assistance Programs and urges Governor Hickel and the Alaska
State Legislature to fund these programs at the current FY 1994 level or higher to assist
municipalities in coping with inflation.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
11th day of April, 1994.
