RESOLUTION NO. 94-092

OF SEWARD, ALASKA, RECOMMENDING FOREST SERVICE
ALTERNATIVE NO.7 AS TIm PREFERRED SOLUTION TO TIm
SPRUCE BARK BEETLE EPIDEMIC ON TIm KENAI PENINSULA
WHEREAS, over the past two years significant portions of the upper Kenai River
watershed around the community of Moose Pass have been impacted by the spruce bark beetle
epidemic; and
WHEREAS, the U. S. Forest Service has identified seven alternative solutions for
addressing the problems created by the spruce beetle epidemic; and
WHEREAS, Alternative No.7 has been identified as the maximum treatment response
to the spruce bark beetle infestation and, therefore, the most likely to bring a successful
conclusion to the problem; and
WHEREAS, it is in the public interest to do all that is possible to both alleviate the
immediate forest fIre danger and to stop the spread of the spruce bark beetle infestation;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY TIm CITY co~ca OF TIm
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The City of Seward, Alaska, recommends that the U. S. Forest Service adopt
Alternative No.7 as its preferred method of dealing with the spruce bark beetle epidemic on the
Kenai Peninsula.
Section 2. Copies of this resolution shall be forwarded to the U. S. Forest Service
(Seward District) and Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor Don Gilman.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this 27th
day of June, 1994.
