CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 92-029 SUBSTITUTE
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, ENCOURAGING PASSENGER CRUISE SHIPS
TO USE THE PORT OF SEWARD
WHEREAS, the passenger cruise shipping industry is important to the city of
Seward; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward has encouraged and continues to encourage cruise
ships to adopt schedules which include calls at the Port of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward wishes to encourage passenger cruise ship
operations at the Port of Seward by discouraging discriminatory taxation such as a
disembarkation tax; and
WHEREAS, the city of Seward is willing to assure the cruise shipping industry
that such taxes are not part of the city's revenue program;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city of Seward finds it in the public interest to encourage
additional cruise ships to use the Port of Seward.
Section 2. The city of Seward discourages the use of a disembarkation tax
assessment for international passenger cruise ship operations.
Section 3. The City Council considers discriminatory taxes to be detrimental to the
further use of southcentral ports by cruise shipping lines.
Section 4. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
18th day of February, 1992.
