CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 93-009
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, OPPOSING CUTS TO MUNICIPAL
ASSISTANCE AND STATE REVENUE SHARING
WHEREAS, Governor Hickel has proposed a 25% reduction in revenue sharing
and municipal assistance funding to local governments; and
WHEREAS, in addition, the Governor has proposed cutting all funding to support
the state mandated senior citizen/disabled veteran property tax exemption program; and
WHEREAS, the proposed cuts in revenue sharing and municipal assistance will
cost the city of Seward $159,953, which equates to a 1.1 mill tax increase or a 3.2% cut in
city services; and
WHEREAS, these proposed cuts will not cut the size of state government but will
merely shift the burden for basic municipal services to local taxpayers;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The city of Seward is opposed to proposed cuts to the state's municipal
assistance and revenue sharing programs, and Governor Hickel and the State Legislature
are urged to fund these programs at the current FY 1993 levels or to increase the amount
of FY 93 levels to assist municipalities in coping with inflation.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
25th day of January, 1993.
