CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NOo 93-045
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, SUPPORTING 5B 183
WHEREAS, S8 183, appropriating oil spill criminal funds, has been introduced by
the Senate Rules Committee at the request of Governor Hickel; and
WHEREAS, included in the bill is a grant totalling $12.5 Million to the city of
Seward for development of the Alaska Sea Life Center and $3.4 Million to the state
Department of Fish and Game for development of a shellfish hatchery and technical
center which may be located in Seward; and
WHEREAS, both the Alaska Sea Life Center and the shellfish hatchery will benefit
the state as well as the city; and
WHEREAS, all of the projects identified for funding within S8 183 fit the criteria
established for the expenditure of the criminal settlement funds; and
WHEREAS, it is in the best interests of the state and the city to secure passage of
this important bill so that these projects can move forward;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Alaska State Legislature is encouraged to approve S8 183 as
originally submitted.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
12th day of April, 1993. .
