A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE TERMINATION OF
THE EXISTING SENIOR/COMMUNITY CENTER JOINT MANAGEMENT
AGREEMENT AND DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO DEVELOP
A NEW AGREEMENT TO PERMIT ADDITIONAL PUBLIC USE AND
A V AILABILlTY OF THE SENIOR/COMMUNITY CENTER
WHEREAS, the joint management agreement between the city and Seward Senior
Citizens, Inc., and Resurrection Bay Historical Society, Inc., for use of the Senior/Com-
munity Center, will automatically continue for one year unless terminated by the city by
January 14, 1994; and
WHEREAS, under the existing agreement, Seward Senior Citizens, Inc., and the
Resurrection Bay Historical Society, Inc., have exclusive use of the Senior/Community
Center except by special rental agreement; and
WHEREAS, the rents paid under such special rental agreements go directly to
Seward Senior Citizens, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, debt service for the facility purchase and construction is paid from the
city's general fund; and
WHEREAS, there is a gro~1ing need for accessible, affordable indoor space for a
variety of community uses; an<J
WHEREAS, it is the desire of the city to move the Seward Youth Center programs
to the first floor of the Senior/Community Center and to allow increased public access
and structured programming for the third floor after the hours of Senior Citizen
programming;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Sectj.on 1. The City Manager is authorized to terminate the existing Senior/Com-
munity Center Management Agreement.
..'Section 2. The City Manager is hereby instructed to develop a new Community
Cel)ter Management Agreement with Seward Senior Citizens, Inc., and Resurrection Bay
Historical Society, Inc., to permit additional public use and availability in accordance with

the terms set forth in the January 3, 1994, memorandum which is attached and
incorporated herein by reference.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward, Alaska, this
10th day of January, 1994.

At the regular meeting, the motion to approve the resolution failed.
Councilmember Anderson gave notice of reconsideration to the clerk.
The Council held a special meeting to reconsider the resolution. The
motion to reconsider passed, and the resolution, as amended, was approved
by unanimous vote.
