CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 89-086
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, URGING EXXON TO CONTINUE
CLEANUP OPERATIONS AS LONG AS WEATHER PERMITS
WHEREAS, since the grounding of the Exxon Valdez, Exxon and
its subcontractors have been involved in a major cleanup of Alaska
waters and beaches; and
WHEREAS, Exxon has announced plans to suspend cleanup
operations for this season on september 15; and
WHEREAS, it is the city's desire to see cleanup operations
continue beyond that date if weather permits;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Exxon and its subcontractors are urged to continue
cleanup operations on Alaska waterways and beaches as long as
weather permits.
Section 2. In the spring of 1990, following an assessment of
their earlier cleanup efforts, Exxon and its subcontractors are
further urged to resume cleanup operations at a level which will
assure completion by year-end 1990.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 24th day of July, 1989.
