CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 90-036
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, AUTHORIZING THE EARLY OPENING OF
THE PUBLIC CAMPGROUNDS IN WATERFRONT PARK PRIOR TO MAY 15
WHEREAS, the city has experienced an early breakup, accom-
panied by reasonably warm temperatures and considedrable snow melt:
and
WHEREAS, the city has noted an influx of visitors and seasonal
workers in the community caused by early breakup conditions, the
oil spill cleanup and fisheries hirings: and
WHEREAS, the number of visiting vehicles is estimated to be
too large to be accommodated in the designated winter camping area;
and
WHEREAS, the opening of campgrounds in Waterfront Park does
not appear to present health or safety problems for the city
because of mild weather conditions: and
WHEREAS, the city can open and operate the campgrounds,
collect fees and welcome visitors to the community:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The Parks and Recreation Department is authorized
to open the Waterfront Park camping areas to visitors on April 27,
1990.
Section 2. The Parks and Recreation Department campground
management staff may collect established fees and perform required
services beginning April 27, 1990.
Section 3. Public camping areas in Forest Acres Park and at
Spring Creek shall remain closed to camping until the official May
15 opening date.
Section 4. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon
approval.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the city Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 23rd day of April, 1990.
