CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 90-141
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, CHANGING THE NAME OF COTTONWOOD
AVENUE TO SEA LION AVENUE
WHEREAS, in order to provide land for a proposed elementary
school, the city created the Fort Raymond Subdivision; and
WHEREAS, in keeping with the naming of streets in this general
area after local trees, the right of way access to what would
eventually be the new elementary school was named Cottonwood
Avenue; and
WHEREAS, unknown to the city and overlooked by the Kenai
Peninsula Borough, a previously unnamed street in Forest Acres
Subdivision was also named Cottonwood Street; and
WHEREAS, recently, the Student Council of William H. Seward
Elementary School adopted the Sea Lion as its school mascot; and
WHEREAS, local citizens , with the support of the Seward Parent
Advisory Committee, have suggested that the access street to the
new elementary school be named SEA LION AVENUE;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Cottonwood Avenue within Fort Raymond Subdivision
is hereby renamed SEA LION AVENUE in honor of the William H. Seward
Elementary School mascot.
Section 2. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 26th day of November, 1990.
