CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 90-144
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, REQUESTING INCREASED SERVICES
FROM THE UNIVERSITY OF ALASKA MARINE ADVISORY PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the university of Alaska sponsors an Alaska Marine
Advisory Program (MAP) through which it supplies agents in various
communities throughout the state to assist in fishery and marine
science problems and issues; and
WHEREAS, the only MAP Agent on the Kenai peninsula is
stationed in Homer; and
WHEREAS, the growth of sport and commercial fisheries in
Seward, coupled with planned expansion of marine science research
through both the Institute of Marine Science and the proposed
Alaska Marine Mammal Center, has increased the city's need for
expanded MAP presence in Seward; and
WHEREAS, the IMS Rae Building is available to provide office
space for a MAP Agent;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. The University of Alaska is urged to provide a
full time MAP Agent for the Eastern Kenai peninsula to be stationed
in Seward.
Section 2. In the alternative, the University of Alaska, is
urged to assure that the MAP Agent stationed in Homer spend a
minimum of two days each week in Seward to address fishery and
marine science problems and issues facing the community.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon
its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the City Council of the city of Seward,
Alaska, this 26th day of November, 1990.
