CITY OF SEWARD, ALASKA
RESOLUTION NO. 97-041
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEWARD,
ALASKA, REDUCING THE MOTOR VEHICLES CLERK POSITION TO
THIRTY HOURS PER WEEK
WHEREAS, during the FY 1997 budget process, the City Council authorized sufficient
funding to increase the Department of Motor Vehicles Clerk to a full-time position in order to
accommodate increased activity in the Department; and
WHEREAS, at that time, the City projected revenues resulting from the increased activity
to fully cover the cost of the DMV Clerk position; and
WHEREAS, at the request of Councilmember King, the Police Department and the Finance
Department prepared a report comparing actual revenues to expenditures for the first six months of
the current fiscal year; and
WHEREAS, the initial report indicated that revenues had not met the City's projections, and
the City was subsidizing the increased hours for the DMV Clerk position; and
WHEREAS, as a result of that report, Mr. King requested a resolution decreasing the DMV
Clerk's hours to thirty (30) per week in order to assure that revenues generated from DMV activities
would cover the cost of providing this service to the public; and
WHEREAS, a subsequent review of this budget by the City has found that revenues were
inaccurately reported in the earlier report to the City Council, and locally-generated DMV revenues
have covered the cost of providing the service for the period July I, 1997 through January 31, 1997;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SEWARD, ALASKA, that:
Section 1. Effective April I, 1997, the Department of Motor Vehicles Clerk position will
be reduced from a full-time position to a thirty-hour-per-week position, and the Police Department
Salary Budget No. 101-12l0-XXXX is hereby reduced to reflect the reduction in hours for the
position.
Section 2. A copy of the revised budget is attached and incorporated herein by reference.
Section 3. This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
