RESOLUTION NO. 2&OJ
A RESOLUTION OF THE SEWARD HISTORIC PRESE
COMMISSION, RECOMMENDING THAT THE CITY COUN
HOBEN PARK ON THE SEWARD REGISTER OF HISTO
WHEREAS, City Council Ordinance No. 95-10, establis ed the Seward Register of
Historic Places in order to locally recognize properties importan n Seward's history; and
WHEREAS, the historic Hoben Park, located at ~Ol Railway Avenue on Lot 2,
Waterfront Tracts, was built sometime before 1927 and is wned by the City of Seward; and
WHEREAS, the park is located within the loc y designated Downtown Historic District;
and
WHEREAS, the Alaska SeaLife Cen r project, Section 106 review, determined that
Hoben Park was eligible for the National gister of Historic Places as a designed landscape
significant for its association with transp tation and recreation in Seward during its period of
significance from about 1927 to 1944; d
WHEREAS, local recogniti of Hoben Park, will assist in raising the public's awareness
of the historic site, and serve to otect the historical integrity of the park; and
NOW, THEREFO , BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Historic Preservation
Commission that:
Section 1. Ho n Park is eligible for placement on the Seward Register of Historic Places
as a property assoc' ted with transportation and recreation in Seward between 1927 and 1944.
i It is hereby recommended that the City Council include Hoben Park on the
Seward Reg' ter of Historic Places.
This resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption.
PASSED AND APPROVED by the Seward Historic Preservation Commission this 15th
y of April, 1998.
