ACRES OF LAND ALONG THE SEWARD MERIDIAN FROM THE
BEAR LAKE AREA TO THE NASH ROAD AREA
WHEREAS, the Alaska Statehood Act provided for the future growth and
development of local communities through municipal entitlement programs; and
WHEREAS, because of the long range needs of the community, the city of Seward
continues to support state and borough entitlement selections of National Forest lands
contiguous to the city; and
WHEREAS, it is inevitable that long range future community growth and
development - residential, industrial and recreational - will occur within this territory
proposed for annexation; and
WHEREAS, the incorporation of this territory will enable the city to plan for and
control that development; and
WHEREAS, the Commission has previously adopted Resolution No. 92-004
recommending the annexation of certain lands along the Seward Meridian; and
WHEREAS, at the direction of the City Council, the annexation issue has been
reviewed through public testimony and two work sessions; and
WHEREAS, it now appears that the public interest will best be served by
petitioning to annex the area originally proposed in Resolution No. 92-004;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Seward Planning and Zoning
Commission that:
